Site notice

The Site Notice is a feature on MediaWiki wikis that allows a message to appear above the title bar on all pages.

The page MediaWiki:Sitenotice allows the modification of the site notice. Adding content to the Site Notice causes a dismissable announcement to appear at the top of all Wiki pages, for anyone viewing them, until dismissed by the user. This page can only by edited by administrators or members of a similar group.

Setting the notice content to "-" (default) will disable the notice. This should generally be done once a notice is no longer needed, as most Site Notices should be temporary.

The Site Notice is useful for announcing information that would be relevant for all users. If your target audience is only current editors, a Site Notice may not be appropriate. Consider making a basic news page instead (such as ftb:Project:Current news or mcw:Project:Community portal#Recent wiki news).
