While this is a userspace page, it is not intended to be exclusively edited by the associated user. However, please try to be consistent with other parts of the page if you do make changes.

These are the issues and changes found on Gamepedia wikis migrated to UCP, the new unified platform for both Fandom and Gamepedia.

Messages first mentioning the issue in every conversation are referenced even if redundant. Additions in chronological order of first mention are preferred. The order of items in lists should not be changed. Timestamps are YYYY-MM-DD hh:mm in UTC.

Ticket statuses:

  • Ticketed The issue exists and is reported to staff/developers.
  • Unknown if ticketed The issue exists, but not known whether it's been reported to staff/developers.

Issue statuses:

  • Unknown if still an issue Not known whether the issue still exists.
  • Fixed The issue is no more.
  • No longer relevant It is no longer meaningful to consider this issue. For example, the affected feature got removed completely.
  • Working as intended This is an intentional change, and from the perspective of staff/developers, not an addressable issue. As such, it is not going to be fixed.
  • Inactionable Unlikely to get fixed, at least in the near future. May be blocked by some other substantial issue, may be caused by external factors, may require too much effort to fix, or may be part of some functionality that is planned to be removed.

Interface issues

Things that look wrong and/or don't do what they are expected to.

  1. Fixed Styling on Special:ListUsers is broken, and the page loads slowly.[1]
    • Fix expected 2020-09-28 — 2020-10-04.[2]
    • Can no longer reproduce: Fandom code release-132.007@release-132.007, 2020-09-29 19:32.
    • Closing as apparently fixed. 2020-10-01 12:09.
  2. Fixed The new search page modifies the navigation menu font size on desktop.[3]
    • No new references for some time. 2020-10-05 20:26.
    • Apparently fixed.
  3. Fixed The + button on talk pages (to add a new section) is expressly made unclickable with built-in CSS.[4][5]
    • Fixed at least as of release-134.002@release-134.002, 2020-10-01 13:13.
  4. Fixed Styling on Special:Preferences, Special:BotPasswords, and many other special pages is broken.[6][7][8][9]
    • Likely cause: $wgAllowSiteCSSOnRestrictedPages being disabled.[10] Given the reason this configuration was introduced (there's some attack surface from untrusted admins using CSS to affect Special:Preferences, and on Fandom, everyone can become an admin, so admins cannot be trusted), it's not necessary this will ever be re-enabled.
    • Fix expected 2020-09-28 — 2020-10-04.[11]
    • Partial fix applied (now respects light/dark wikis). The rest of the styles still don't apply, and wide logos (on wikis that have wide logos) are broken.
    • Fixed 2020-10-13.[12]
  5. Ticketed Input element (checkbox / button / text field / radio button) styling is broken.[13][14]
    • Should be fixed in the next deploy.[15]
    • Behavior changed at about release-134.002@release-134.002; now the border is there, but the background is not properly applied when the checkbox is ticked on. 2020-10-01 13:13.
    • Clarified the nature of the issue. Also, there are differences across browsers (Chrome and Firefox); strictly speaking, with these issues, Firefox is more standard-conformant, but given Chromium/Webkit's prominence, this is more or less irrelevant. 2020-10-05 20:28.
  6. Inactionable Notifications display incorrect wiki names and WikiPoints icons.[16][17]
    • Caused by the two platforms not being aware of each other. Should be fixed when all wikis are migrated to the UCP.
  7. Inactionable List formatting on Special:SpecialPages changed. Bullet points are now square instead of round, margins and/or padding seem to have been adjusted as well.[18]
    • Too minor an issue to dedicate staff resources, doesn't pose any major problems, and likely to become irrelevant when the new design system goes live.
  8. Inactionable × icons on Recent Changes are now larger.[19][20]
    • Too minor an issue to dedicate staff resources, doesn't pose any major problems. May also end up irrelevant when the new design system goes live.
  9. Fixed Fandom-style white boxes have styles inappropriate for dark skin wikis.[21][22]
    • Fixed at least as of release-134.002@release-134.002, 2020-10-01 13:14. (Checked Special:Search)
  10. Fixed Next page buttons on categories do not work.[23][24]
    • Workaround: Go to Special:Preferences on a UCP wiki and switch from dynamic categories to classic categories.
    • This appears fixed as of release-134.006@release-134.006. 2020-10-05 20:32.
  11. Ticketed Searching for a nonexistent page no longer provides a link to create that page.[25]
    • Workaround: Manual URL editing to add action=edit. Alternatively, creating and following a redlink, which can be done in preview mode.
  12. Fixed PRO users see empty spaces where ads would have been. Some even see ads.[26][27]
    • The fix has been merged, the next deploy should resolve the issue.[28]
    • This is mostly fixed, but the bottom ad area still shows as an empty space. A fix for that is coming.
    • Fixed 2020-10-13.[12]
  13. Fixed Profile comments have broken styling.[29]
    • This has been fixed some time before, maybe at about release-134.003@release-134.003. 2020-10-05 20:33.
  14. Ticketed Many master achievements show as "Master of ".[30]
  15. Ticketed The styling on Special:Contributions breaks when changing namespaces.[31]
  16. Fixed Custom block reason, delete reason, file license, and other dropdowns are being overwritten by default options.[32]
    • This is a UCP-wide issue, should be fixed 2020-10-12 to 2020-10-18.
    • Fixed 2020-10-13.[12]
  17. Ticketed The analytics dashboard is very bright (for dark theme wikis) and very orange.[33]

User permissions

Loss of user permissions that is likely configurable and not inherently unavoidable, but happened anyway due to merging with the Fandom set of permissions, oversights, or intensional changes. Also includes inconsistencies in permissions.

  1. Unknown if still an issue Administrators cannot view histories of some deleted pages (such as system messages) even though they have the permission.[34]
  2. Unknown if still an issue Administrators cannot edit unusual system messages. This may be Fandom's MediaWiki: allowlist at work.[35]
  3. Ticketed Only admins can move pages with redirect suppression.[36][37]
  4. Ticketed Bureaucrats can no longer demote other bureaucrats.[38]
  5. Ticketed Editing content models is now an admin-only right.[38]
  6. Ticketed Admins can no longer edit the interwiki table.[38]
  7. Ticketed Admins can no longer edit the CSS and JS of other users.[38]
    • This is likely intentional for security reasons and unlikely to be changed.
  8. Fixed Admins are now apparently subject to rate limits (noratelimit is gone).[38]
    • Fixed at least as of release-134.002@release-134.002, 2020-10-01 13:19. For bots as well.
  9. Fixed Wiki guardians can no longer delete pages? (delete is gone, bigdelete is still there)[38]
    • Fixed at least as of release-134.006@release-134.006, 2020-10-05 20:38.
  10. Fixed Wiki guardians can no longer view deleted pages? (browsearchive is gone)[38]
    • Fixed at least as of release-134.006@release-134.006, 2020-10-05 20:38.
  11. Fixed Significant disparity between admin and wiki guardian permissions.[39]
    • Fixed at least as of release-134.006@release-134.006, 2020-10-05 20:38.
  12. Fixed Font manager access is revoked from wiki guardians, but not admins.[40]
    • Fixed at least as of release-134.006@release-134.006, 2020-10-05 20:38.
  13. Unknown if ticketed Widget editing rights are present for WMs, CTMs, and staff even if the Widgets extension is not enabled on a wiki.

Feature issues

Some things working conceptually wrong beyond missing permissions or minor interface deficiencies.

  1. No longer relevant Special:AllSites no longer works.[41]
    • Special:AllSites will not be on GPUCP.[42]
    • Closing as context-invalidated. The feature itself is gone. 2020-10-01 12:10.
  2. Inactionable Portable infoboxes have styling issues.[43]
    • Portable Infoboxes are not supposed to be enabled yet. The extension may be disabled, but is likely to end up working on Gamepedia some time in the future.[44]
  3. Fixed Profiles cannot be saved.[45]
    • Seems to be fixed, an about me section got successfully saved on a GPUCP wiki. 2020-10-02 18:10.
  4. No longer relevant Special:InfoboxBuilder is unusable due to styling, and now unusable in addition to that.[46]
    • This page was likely not yet intended to be available on Gamepedia.
    • Apparently this got disabled; the special page now gives an error. release-135.004@release-135.004, 2020-10-06 17:53.
  5. No longer relevant Special:MapEditor shows an authorization error.[47]
    • This page was likely not yet intended to be available on Gamepedia.
    • Apparently this got disabled; the special page now gives an error. release-135.004@release-135.004, 2020-10-06 17:53.
  6. Ticketed Global CSS/JS from ucp.fandom.com does not work on GPUCP.[48]
    • Not necessarily going to be fixed.
  7. Fixed Some images from Gamepedia Commons may not work.[49]
    • Should have been fixed, was an error due to uploads to the wrong Commons wiki and the fact that GP/Legacy and GPUCP have two separate Commons wikis.
  8. Fixed Bots cannot possibly edit templates due to a custom right for template editing not being included in any grant.[50]
    • Fixed at least as of release-134.002@release-134.002, 2020-10-01 14:02.
    • This is specifically not an intended restriction, and a fix is coming.[51]
  9. Ticketed LuaSandbox is disabled on GPUCP.[52]
  10. Ticketed Special:Analytics is pulling data only from after the migration.[53]
  11. Fixed Fandom's Shared Help is incorrectly applying to Gamepedia wikis, overriding some pages in the Help: namespace with hard redirects to Fandom's Community Central.[54]
    • Fixed 2020-10-13.[12]
  12. Fixed User pages for nonexistent users, IPs, or IP ranges show errors, and cannot be interacted with via the web interface if they actually exist. [55]
    • Fixed 2020-10-13.[12]
  13. Unknown if ticketed Pages have two sets of meta tags with the latter overriding the former.[56]
  14. Unknown if ticketed Achievement emails point to Special:Special:Achievement, where the first prefix is localized, and the second is hardcoded as English.[57]
  15. Unknown if ticketed Improperly capitalized URLs (wiki/pagename instead of wiki/Pagename) produce errors.[58]
  16. Unknown if ticketed The "Related wiki" feature can link a user to the wiki they are currently on.[59]
  17. Fixed The Visual Editor is no longer default for users who are not logged in.[60]
    • Fixed 2020-10-13.[12]
  18. Unknown if ticketed The "Related wiki" feature can link users to highly questionable wikis, such as those for drugs.[61]
  19. Unknown if ticketed The "Related wiki" feature can link users to absurdly unrelated wikis.[62]
  20. Unknown if ticketed The "Related wiki" feature can link users to near-duplicate wikis full of useless material.[63]

Expected changes

These issues are expected configuration and platform changes that are not inherently problematic. They are unlikely to be changed again in the near future.

  1. Search is changed to the UCP search. Many advanced search features, most notably insource search, no longer work.[64]
    • Partial replacement: Special:TagsReport may be used instead of insource searches.
    • The new search is also case-sensitive and letters with diacritics do not match with the corresponding letters without diacritics.
    • Search does not recognize namespace aliases or default to search-in-namespace when the search starts with a namespace.
    • Ticketed There is no link to create a new page if the search term does not exist. (Ticketed and listed above)
  2. Ticketed Global abuse filters are replaced with Fandom's Phalanx. As a result, abuse filter logs prior to the migration include corrupted entries for events generated by global filters.[65][64]
  3. Miser mode is enabled.
    • Special pages are now cached.
    • Sitewide styles are now cached more than usual.[66]
    • The rollback button no longer displays the number of edits to be rolled back.
    • Use the ?debug=true URL parameter to bypass the sitewide CSS cache.
  4. Global blocks are now only available to staff, wiki managers, and SOAP as they now apply to all of Fandom.[64]
  5. Autoconfirmation on Gamepedia will require confirming your email address.[64]
  6. The staging environment, formerly on gamepedia.io, is no more.

Benefits

Surprisingly or not, UCP comes with some positive changes for Gamepedia editors.

  1. Global Lua modules from the Fandom Dev wiki can now be imported.[67]
  2. Admins can now self-demote.[38]

Pre-migration benefits

These affect all Gamepedia wikis, not just those on the new platform. However, these features have been enabled in the process of moving Gamepedia to the new platform.

  1. Shared login system with Fandom. Fandom accounts are usable on both systems, and a Twitch account is no longer needed.
  2. The new image backend, though not without its issues, is a lot faster than the old one.

New extensions

  1. Extension:CodeMirror is available by default, enabling syntax highlighting for the 2010 editor.[38]
  2. Extension:TemplateData is available by default.[38]
  3. Extension:Labeled Section Transclusion is available by default.[38]
  4. The PortableInfobox extension is available.[38]
    • This is not an intentional activation at this point of the GP/UCP process. This extension may get disabled until some further stage of the process.[44]
