Hey everyone,

At the beginning of October, we gave our first update on the new platform. We followed this up with some more specifics on the Unified Community Platform.

This, understandably, became a cause of great concern with some of our admins, editors, and communities. Since the acquisition of Gamepedia by Fandom, we’ve been hard at work on designing the UCP and planning for the future of our platforms. This focus on the future caused us to lose sight of what matters right now.

We dropped the ball. We haven’t been as communicative with you as we have in the past and haven’t been as attentive to you as we should have been. As part of our new Community Contract we asked you to ‘hold us accountable and challenge us’. You rightfully called us out on it and we want you to know we’re listening. Here’s what we’re doing to correct it:

  1. Formation of the Gamepedia Fellowship
  2. Improving our usage of Discord
  3. Create Gamepedia specific updates and Q&As for the Unified Community Platform.

The Gamepedia Fellowship is an invitational group of active and knowledgeable admins and editors who will work with us and their communities to bring concerns to our attention faster. We will also work with this group to get more direct feedback on the UCP. The goal is to have representation from most major wikis, but also be small enough to ensure it is organized and not overwhelming.

Improving our usage of Discord. We understand that Discord is not Slack and the transition has been less than perfect. It can feel hard to be seen and heard when you need something. We need your feedback on how we can make Discord great in the ways that Slack was. As we collect feedback, we’re committed to making sure we find something that works. In the meantime, we’re going to increase the amount of time we spend on Discord and make ourselves available to you in #general-gamepedia, #feedback-gamepedia, and in direct messages. With DMs, we may not be immediately available outside of normal US business hours, but we’ll always get back to you with help, or get you to another staff member who can help in a reasonable timeframe.

New Gamepedia specific UCP news posts will allow us to break down exactly what is happening and how it relates to you. We will also take questions from the community on these posts and do our best to answer them promptly.

We’re just getting started on the Unified Community Platform and it’s going to be a long road. Our commitment to you is to provide information as it’s available and to give you honest and candid answers to your concerns.

I’m HeyTots#1127 on Discord and you can reach out to me any time you have a concern. I look forward to hearing from you and getting to know you all.
